Thumbs down Breaks Gone

O.k I get one thing fixed and then I don't have breaks.
I remmoved the ABS system because it wasn't working and my LT's got in the way of the plugs so I just riped it out.

I remooved all my lines and my ABS unit but then got side tracked and didn't get back to it for a few weeks.
Filled every ting back up and let it set for about 2 months while I fought with my ECM.
I have no breaks what so ever.
I had a budy I called and he told me how to bled the Master Cylinder and get the air out.
We did that and had good break pressure and bled out the back breaks with this prosses:
Pump 5 times and hold
Open bleeder and then close it
Reepet 3 times
The minuet I started the car and hit the breaks enverything went to mush, nothing, nodda, kaput, asta la vesta baby.
What is my problem? What happend to my system?

Here is how my setup is facing front of car:
2 lines come off master cylinder
Front line goes to distrabution block and feed rear breaks.
Rear line comes down to the line lock and goes into the top hole.
Line comes off the bottom hole of line lock and goes in to the distrabution block and feeds the 2 front breaks.

Re: Breaks Gone

You can't just bleed "X" amount of times. You have to bleed until no more air bubbles are seen. Start with the RR then LR then RF and finally LF. Check you brake booster vacuum also.

Re: Breaks Gone

Did you "bench bleed" the master cylinder? If not, what method did you use?

You mention bleeding the rear brakes, but don't mention bleeding the front brakes.

Re: Breaks Gone

I made a call to a freind and he told me how to bled the Master Cylinder:
Take the 2 lines off the Master Cylinder and run them into the fluid container on top and press your break slowly till there are no more bubbles.
I had help with this from a car budy down the street.
When we had no more bubbles we reconected the lines to the Master Cylinder and bled the back breaks with out the car runninng.
We had fluid comming out of both rear bleders so we got raedy to do the front but when I started the car I lost all my break pressure.
It was late and dark so we said screw it till latter to day.

Re: Breaks Gone

Don't think the setup is the problem. Sound like air in the lines. With out a pressure bleeder it's going to take a lot of time to get this much air out of the lines.

Re: Breaks Gone

Well I had to add a Proportioning Valve in line for the rear brakes and then did then bled the brakes the long way.
Everything is good now and I can stop on a dime
Time to put some Insurance on her and go for a spin

Re: Breaks Gone

Great, glad you got her fixed. People who haven't driven with really good brakes have no idea what they're missing.
