brakes stink

hey all got a problem with my brakes, i just had a motor put in and had my brake lines disconected then reconnected and i dont like my brakes there is a lot of pedal travel, they were good before the lines were disconnected, i have new hawk pads all around, my mechanic said he bleed the front brakes , but if i wanted to stop short i cant, the pedal will bottom out, its not spungy or loosing power brakes, it just feels like there is air in the line,

i was told that if you have abs then you need to bleed the back brakes first then the front. What do u guys think?
