brake/rotor install
brake/rotor install
just finished replacing the front rotors and brake pads.
feels a little slow to stop the car, even after i pumped the brakes and got the fluid going. almost as if only the rears were working.
any thoughts or am i just paranoid? first time but i followed instructions on installuniversity and only took a few hours.

Brendan i did that and it works thanks.
But when i had it jacked up and spun the wheel it didn't turn much and i could hear the pad on the rotor (whereas before i changed the pads the wheel would spin the whole way around because the pads were so worn down-plus the rotots were warped).
anything else or just let them wear in? thanks

i had the same problem: wheel kinda tight after LS1 brake swap
removed the 2 bolts of the caliper, checked pads and clips, wiggled rotor, put more grease on the caliper guide pins, brake-cleen'd, replaced caliper. not sure what it was, but it spins better now

Did you get the rotors turned? They may be glazed up and the new pads are having a hard time seating and getting broke in. That was a friends problem on his mustang. After he got em turned he was problem free. Try bleeding them again also. You might have had some hidden air pockets in there surface up.
all i did was jack it up, pull off the old pads and rotors and put new ones on (rotors and pads). i am not sure what glazing means-i am kind of new to this. car drives fine-i guess because the new pads they are so thick??
Did you use your old rotors or put on new ones? If you used your old ones it is highly highly recommended that you get your rotors turned during each brake pad replacement. All that means is you take the rotors to a shop somewhere and they put them on a machine for you. The machine roughs up the surface of the rotors and makes them look brand new basically, kinda like sanding them back to bare metal. Rotors have a tendancy(especially the front since they do 90% of the braking) to get a glaze formed on them from use, it's normal, but it also makes the surface kinda "slippery" to new pads. Getting them turned eliminates this. It also eliminates steering wheel "shake" under hard braking. Pull them off and go have a shop do this. I would bet money that is your problem. You'll notice a huge difference. Shouldn't be more than $10-15 bucks each. Someone else can probably explain better, hope you get what I'm saying.
hi thanks for the info, brand new rotors and brand new pads. rotors (I only did the front) ran me $60 for the pair and pads were $30.
you are right with replacing the two front rotors as they were warped because when i brake my steering wheel doesnt shake!

In addition to the above posts maybe you should clean the rotors really well with some brake cleaner. Sometimes they have grease/oil on them to keep them from rusting on the shelf or if you had dirty oily hands when you puyt them on there may be oil on there that needs to come off.
