Brake conversion

Hey what's up guy's? I just bought a set of 17x9.5 ZO6's. My problem is I have drum brakes in the back. I don't really think that the rims would look good with the drums, so I want to convert them to disk. How hard is this and what does it consist of? Or would'nt they look bad with the drums. any info and opinions appreciated!

they would look bad with drums. I think you just need calipers, rotors, and the mounting bracket off a disc brake car. I'm not exactly sure what the diff in parking brake cable is.

Re: Brake conversion

it would almost be easier to buy a used rear with disc. you have to remove the axels to get the brackets on and off. plus im sure there is an amount of change that needs to be done with the brake lines and what not.

Re: Brake conversion

You will need the backing plates, shims, and the bolts associated.

You will need new calipers, rotors, and emergency brake cables.

You will need new flexible brake hoses.

You will need longer axle studs.

As stated, you will need to remove the axles to install the plates. You'll have to install the new longer studs, becuase the stock ones are too short. I suggest you go with the LS1 studs like I did, worked like a charm. Afterwards, you'll even have plenty of room for wheel spacers if you wanted.

The brake lines will need to be rebent, but it's doable.

I bought all new parts for my conversion, and the amount (again as stated) was more than a different junk yard rear end would have ran me. But then again, I got all my parts direct from GM.
