Brake booster pump

What are the signs/symptoms of a failing brake booster pump? Will the idle (when the car is in gear and stopped) be affected by a failing pump?
Thanks!

Re: Brake booster pump

The brake booster is a vacuum canister. There's a larger tube from the intake manifold to the brake booster that generates the vacuum. You'll experince a vacuum leak if the booster fails which can result in a poor idle. A vacuum gauge can help to verify the system. You can also pinch off the line to the brake booster and see if the idle improves.
