Brake Bleed Procedure

Hey, guys. I have a '96 Z28. I have replaced all the calipers. I have bled them. When the car is off, I have pressure on the brake pedal; however, when it is turned on, I don't have any pressure. Furthermore, the "brake" light is on. I've read that there is a sequence to bleeding the calipers or the ABS, but I don't want to start over. Do I? Or is there a shortcut? Because the lines are bled, but there is air in the ABS.

Did you have any codes for the ABS system before you tried to bleed the brakes? If so, you need to "home" the ABS motors. Needs a Tech-2 tool, or an alternative procedure outlined in the factory manual. Detailed procedure for sequence of bleeding in the manual as well.

You can do a free download of the 1996 factory service manual:

There aren't any codes.

No ABS codes? At a minimum, you should have DTC 86 = "EBCM turned "on" the the red "BRAKE" warning lamp" - or DTC 87 for a short or open "BRAKE light circuit.

If you are sure, then just follow the procedure in the factory manual for bleeding.
