Bigger brakes

Are there any half way affordable options for bigger or better than stock brakes? I have heard of someone upgrading their 5.7 gto brakes with the 6.0 gto brakes, would the same 6.0 brakes fit on an f body

Look into some of the C5/C6 conversions around. UMI offers them. I got mine from Kore3.

do you have an lt1 or ls1 car? if you have a lt1 car then do the ls1 upgrade, you gain an inch of rotor dia. much thicker and dual piston caliper over the single with much more surface area. get the powerslot rotors or equivalent, and some good pads like hawk and you will have brakes that are twice as good as the lt1 brakes. if you are already an ls1 car then the c5 corvette brake conversion is the next step up but more money.

What's your budget?

I want to get the Baer Track Plus setup for my '02. Last time I looked, total cost was under $1500.

I planned on doing that as well, but then I heard that the C6 Z06 brakes aren't actually all that good. The Baer setup offers better performance, and will fit under my 17" wheels, whereas the C6 Z06 setup requires at least an 18" wheel.

You don't necessarily need to go bigger to get much better brakes. If you run a great set of pads, good fluid and lines the stock brakes on a LS1 work very, very well.

Bigger is not always better. In fact not many years ago a car magazine ran a test of 4 "Big Brake Kits" on a car and then used stock brakes with upgraded pads (all on the very same car) and did a test. 90-0, back to 90 and down again, over and over. It wasn't until the 4th stop in a row the bigger brakes outperformed the stock brakes with upgraded pads....

sam, what kind of fluid do you recommend for dual purpose street and track?

thats why i run the LS1 brakes in my car, best bang for the buck and when you put quality pads and rotors on it, they do very well.

I pretty exclusively sell (and I personally use) ATE Fluid. Either Type 200 or Super Blue which is the same but for the color.

Dry boiling pt. of 536
Wet boiling pt. of 388
Exceeds DOT 4 specs overall
Very low compressability
Doesn't make you go broke @ $12-13.95 a liter respectively.
