Baer brake kit

I got a quote on new 2 piston calipers front & back, slotted rotors, and s/s brake line. A Baer complete kit for $1300 CAN$. Anyone have anything to say about these brakes, good or bad?

I apparently can get a 13inch rotor on my stock rim, 1 inch larger than stock rotor.

Re: Baer brake kit

You'll get more responses positing in the brake section. Stock rims are 16" unless you have a SS that came with 17" rims; 13" rotors/calipers won't fit inside 16" rims. I have the Baer 2 piston/13" setup on the front with stock rear calipers and Baer rotors. It greatly enhances braking. I got the front kit on sale for $675 and the rear rotors run about $295. A better way to go is with the C5 front brake setup if they'll fit inside of your rims. The C5 setup doen't clear my Enkei Winn 17" rims.

Re: Baer brake kit

Baer kits use C4 Vette GS calipers with their own rotors. The price seems high for a Baer front brake kit and rear rotors and ss lines, but I'm not familiar with the exchange rate. I think TByrne is offering GP discounts on Baer right now, you might compare prices with them.
You would be better off buying the Baer kit for the front with undrilled/unslotted rotors and leaving the rear brakes alone except for the lines, or upgrading to 17" wheels and C5 front brakes, like mentioned above.

Re: Baer brake kit

The exchange rate is around CAN$1.3 to US$1. My rims are 16inch, the guy at the brake shop seems to think the 13" rotors will fit but I'll get him to confirm that. New rims are always on the back of my mind but I'd rather put that money into the motor. New heads and cam are planned so the rims have to wait. OBE1 95Z28's response makes the price sound ok, he paid $970 for front calipers/rotors & rear rotors. The kit I'm looking at is $1300 for 4 powder coated calipers & rotors. Thanks for the help, anymore responses on the performance of the kit would be appreciated.

13 " rotors won't fit 16" rims. The stock 93-97 space saver won't even fit 12" rotors, you will need the 98+ space saver.

Re: Baer brake kit

I think that Baer has PDF templates on their website that you can print out and tape together to show you how much room that you will need.

For an example of how a 13" rotor looks with 17" wheels, check out this pic:

volZfrk's car

You can tell there is not alot of room to spare with 17" wheels, in fact, I think Baer's website doesn't guarantee that the 13" rotors will definitely fit all 17's.

I think the salesman is trying to make some $$$.

Hope this helps.

From Baer's website:

Baer's most popular system. Track systems feature 13"x1.1 rotors and PBR two-piston calipers to produce solid performance at a reasonable price. Its exceptional modulation, performance, and race-proven durability make it an ideal street or track system whenever wheel clearance allows. The Sport packages can be used with some 16" and most 17" or larger wheels.

Re: Baer brake kit

It's not the rotor that interferes, it's the brake caliper. As stated above, Baer has templates to verify your rims. No way will 16" rims work, my 17" Enkei Winn rims work with only 0.10" to spare!

Re: Baer brake kit

OBE1 I think your right. Tonight I tried the template for the Track system (13" rotor) & the GT+ (13.15" rotor) & neither seems to fit the rim. I'm going to try to get the better quality caliper with a 12 inch rotor, the kits don't package them that way.

I thought my OEM rotor was 12" but it is actually 11". Can anyone confirm that the stock '95 Z28 rim is 16" inch for me. I measured it from lip to lip its 17 inches but the rubber says 16". Am I supposed to measure from the inside of the rim?

Re: Baer brake kit

for the $$$, why not look into an LS1 conversion or even a C5 conversion?

A wheel is measured (diameter and width) from the point at which the tire bead sits. So yes, if you're measuring to the edge of the lip, you're going to see a bit more than what the correct measured size is.
