Anyone do Bob Bishop's C5 upgrade? Please come in.

I have a few questions about this upgrade. I have all the parts sitting on my workbench except the brake pad abutment shims and anti-rattle springs. Do I really need these? The pads do seem pretty loose in the abutments. I went with the Hawk HPS pads.I can order those from GM correct? Does anyone know off hand about how much the shims and springs were? Also about how long does this upgrade take? Thanks......John

Yes you need the shims and anti rattle springs. I was able to get them from NAPA. One box contains parts for one caliper so you need 2. The part number I gave Chris Renner (Chris 96 WS6) was 83212 and he has it listed on his site. You need 2 as mentioned and they run ~$21 a piece. The Hawk HPS can be ordered through GM, they are the stock Z06 pads and I have them on my car front and back. The upgrade is VERY straightforward. I went in not knowing anything about brakes or even how they worked and I did it in under 6 hours taking my time essentially by myself. It can be done in 4 or less with someone helping. If you have any other questions PM or Email me.

If you purchase new ZO6 pads, they come with the anti-rattle springs and pad abutment shims. If you purchase Hawk pads from Hawk, they lack the springs and shims. You should never need to replace them. The pad abutment shim is the same one used in the LS1 front caliper, but the anti-rattle spring is unique to the C5 caliper.

Their use is necessary.
