anybody cut their springs?

i have BMR springs all around on the car, the front sits a tad too high. im sitting on OEM c6 wheels. so 18x8.5 in front and the wheel well gap could lose an 1" IMO. was thinking about cutting the springs as i dont want to buy new ones. thoughts or oppinions? dont call me a ricer or talk smack unless you have something useful. mostly kinda looking for anyone who has actually done it with GOOD results.....

I have never done it myself and I never plan to. From the few stories I have read, cutting a lowering spring screws up the spring rate and makes the car ride horrible. The BMR springs are know to only drop the car about 1". If you could sell the BMR springs for a decent price, new springs with a lower drop would be a much better idea than cutting up a good set of BMR's. Just my opinion.

I wouldnt do it. Its going to change the spring rate, stiffness, handling. No No in my book.
I have read about people cutting stockers, but they still run into issues.

If you want to lower the ride height get some shocks that will allow for it. Hal qa1's have adjustments for ride height. With koni's you have to options for the front, one being much lower.

Not sure about others though, I would only buy a quality shock considering how much shocks have to do with our suspensions.

I've know guys that fine tuned height trimming rear springs. You have to be careful and use a cutting wheel so as not to heat the spring. I wouldn't even try it on a front one. The spring configuration is different and you would have to take the spring off the shock every time to work on it. No thanks on that one.

Thumbs down

I don't recommend it, but If you're going to do it no matter what anybody says then cut 1/4 coil or 1/2 coil max! You have to remember taking off 1/2 " of spring height will drop your car down around 1"lower.

From what I've heard if you cut one coil max it shouldn't be a noticeable difference.

My car has one coil cut out of the sportlines in the front, I didn't do it, and in a few months I will be removing the springs in favor of stock (SS) springs to raise the front enough to clear a off road y pipe.
