Adj torque arm question

I just got my UMI adjustable torque arm, but I'm really not figuring out how to get it adju ted to the way I want it. Every time I've searched (goodle, ls1tech.com, etc) I get like 10 different stories and no definitive right answer.

The UMI instructions say use an angle finder on the driveshaft and the bracket underneath the pumpkin, add the two numbers together and you have your pinion angle. I tried that and I got weird vibrations. Searching netted me the opposite, where you subtract the two. Doing that, I should be at -2 right now. The torque arm (I'm assuming) has been thunking ever since. What am I doing wrong.. what do I need to do to do this right? Thanks in advance.
