ABS INOP light

Before someone yells at me, I did a search first

A few months back my abs inop light came on when my front brakes needed replacing. I replaced them, but didnt have the money to do the rears at the time. The abs light went away for a while. Then about a month and a half later the light came on when my rears were making all sorts of noise. When I pulled them off they were complete trash.

I replaced them, and the brakes work ok, they squeak alot, but they stop. The light is still on though. And its getting anoying.

Is there anything I should check for sensor wise, or what can I do to take care of this. By the way my brake pedal is slightly mushy.....

Thanks,
Drew

Make sure the bulbs in the high mounted rear stop light are good.

CHeck all of the other bulbs also.

If this fixes it great. If not, you need to get the codes checked.

Get the car scanned, you may have a bad ABS sensor in the front hubs or in the rear axle. Only one in the rear if you don't have TC.

ABS system does not react to pad wear, no sensor for that. The problem with the front brakes is likely back.

So I had my sister press my brake pedal, as I was watching my brake lights. And come to find out its been that fricken third brake light out. Went to and got some new bulbs and it works again....

Re: ABS INOP light

Glad it helped.

One of the quirks of the car, don't understand why they built it that way, I guess they check voltage drop or currrent through the brake light system.

I have had the same thing happen on my 95. Not sure about the LS1 cars, they have a different ABS system.
