Hey Guys,
Not sure if i posted this in the right section, so i posted here too....A friend of mine recently bought a '73 Z/28 and is looking to put power steering on this. I was wondering if anyone knows where i can get a new/reman rack and pinion for this. Besides Classic Industries, Year One, etc. He doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg doing this. Or also, do the quick ratio gear boxed help with ease of steering? Let me know.

The 73 Z/28 used recirculating ball steering, not rack and pinion. I don't know who makes a kit to convert to power steering but most of the parts are available from any auto parts store. You might have to get brackets from somewhere like Classic Industries. I think the pitman arm is different on power steering gearboxes, you may have to find it in a junk yard. Other parts like the center link and idler arm are probably different too. The quicker the ratio the harder the steering wheel is to turn. Power steering boxes are usually between 2.5 and 3 turns lock to lock. The easiest thing would be to find a salvage 2nd gen F-body and get all the steering parts. You could just call Classic Industries and they may be able to tell you exactly what would be needed to convert.
