Without Z

Being without a car sucks. Not knowing what I will get to replace it sucks even more. This whole accident sucked. I know I am very lucky but it all sucks.

Any opionions on a my next car. I am torn, part of me wants another Z or Stang or Imp, but part of me wants a 5 speed civic for gas mileage. My main concern is the mileage and fun to drive. I guess it has to be fun to drive otherwise I will go nuts.

I already told you that we can go to the auto auctiom with Adam and his dad. We will prolly be able to pick up a Z for about $3500. Adam said we could go with him on Tuesday, so let me know what you want to do.

If you can't make it this Tuesday and you tell me what you REALLY want, I will go with Adam and try to find it at the auction for you.

v6 f-body!

well I would not exactly call them good on gas, but in stock form you can drive very comfortable, below 2500 rpms in a 5-speed but once you lay in on it, it drinks a bit more gas.

my 3.4L was better on gas, even with all the mods and gears.

But hey, RWD, manual tranny, little bit of midrange, bigger and roomier. Thats why I like them, not exactly a full sports car, with ***** to the wall performance, but I jsut got my v6 for just under $10k, '00 with 33k miles on it.

When you look at the average v8 f-body, you can find a v6 that is 2-3 years newer, has half the mileage, for the same price. Just in my searches for cars.

But I will say a v6 f-body is not a practical gas saving car, and a 3.8L is not really that much more reliable then a v8, but I woudl say slightly more reliable. 3.4L is a good reliable car though.

Just don't get sucked into the truck thing, they are expensive, gas hogs, and not nearly as fun as a manual tranny sporty car. Unless you offroad, but that is a big difference.

The v6 F-body gets about the same gas mileage as the V8's but on the bright side it's got about half the power, that's always fun. I get on average 22-23 mpg with 85% hwy the rest city. My best MPG ever was a 100% hwy 100 mile trip at 26.6 MPG (4 speed auto).

Go to the search and search in the LT1 and LS1 forum for "gas mileage" as a title, I started a thread in both sections about those engines to find out the MPG people were getting. On average the LS1 gets equal or better mileage and the LT1 is torn some people get a little to a lot worse some get better.

I can also tell you that my moms 4cyl Cavaliar averages 22-24 city / 28-30 hwy, with an all time high of 33 during a 1400mi roadtrip (5 speed manual)(The car just had a fresh tune up before the trip as well, new air filter, oil, the works). You'll find those numbers to be equal to what some LS1's are getting, the only thing the v8's really don't do so well in is city where they average low 20's, where's 4's might get mid 20's.

yikes I have pulled as high as 30mpg, and 27 mpg average on the highway in my 3.4L with he gears.

as for city driving, my gas mileage is never good, I drive, .8 miles to get to work, and 2-3 miles to get ot school, that is about 85% of my driving right there But still the 3.8L anin't a gas sipper.

I think last night I spent more time letting my car warm up at 3am, then I did actually driving it home.

Speaking from experience with both v6 and v8 f-bodies, the v6 was a lot cheaper on gas. I drive usually no more than 7 miles whenever i get in the car. I got around 19-20 mpg in the v6 and now I get 15-16 in the Z. Plus the Z uses premium.

I wouldn't advise getting a V6 regardless though, It will feel like a gutless POS compared to your old Z. With your budget you can easily get an M6 Z and get decent gas mileage. That's what I would do if I were you.

Get a Grand Prix coupe. I had one before I bought my Camaro and it was a great car.

- about 26 MPG
- big trunk
- lots of room inside
- easy to work on
- cheap to insure
- pretty quick
- nice styling
- good resale value

You could definitely get a supercharged GTP for under $10K. Check them out.

/B]

I got 28MPG averaging 115MPH on the trip up to my cousin's, and then 30MPG on the way back averaging 90MPH.

V8 F-Body can get better gasmilage than a V6 F-Body, but contrary to that, I get like 14.5MPG in the city.

Thumbs up

Well I bought a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged 3800 Series II V6... A little research on the net 14.5 stock is what I should run with this car. A simple pulley swap should have me beating some lt-1's

Yes I miss my camaro, but it was time for a change. I would have loved to get another, but this car is so much more comfortable, and as fun to drive. I miss the v8 rumble, but who know what will happen in 48 months… My dream has always been to restore a 1986 camrao or 1984 Corvette. We will see what happens. At least I still bought GM and am faster than you V6 guys…
