It'd be $100, but you supply the gears, etc. Also, I'm not a professional Mechanic is why I'm willing to do it so cheap. I did it on my car, and it's been in there 3 years without a prob. Same goes for pretty much anyone who reads this. I wanna get a side business going, so I'll do all work to F-bodies CHEAP. Other cars, will do too, but won't give any great prices to. Get the word out, and feel free to e-mail me or PM me or whatever. If you need something done, just ask, and I'll work with you. Also, if it's something I haven't done before, I'll do it REALLLLY Cheap just for the experience.

How many F-body gears have you done?
What happens if you do a set and they make noise?will you replace them for free?
Also do you have the correct pinion depth, backlash tools?

Just curious..no flames ment..

Just mine.

No. Some gear vendor's gears DO make noise. Fact of life.

Also do you have the correct pinion depth, backlash tools?

If you buy gears made for an F-body, you shouldn't have to worry about pinion depth, etc. I had no probs. with mine fitting.

No problem. But I LOVE doing performance work, and....well, you get what you pay for. I'll work on F-bodies for cheap, but in turn you take on the knowledge of it may not be a perfect install, we may need to custom fab something, we need to work together to get the part done. Bottom line is, I am confident that I may not be the best or fastest mechanic out there, but I LOVE F-bodies, and I never had a problem finding the resources to get whatever job I want done. I don't pay people to do work for me. I figure it out.

Yes you are correct and that is due to the higher Nickel content in them BUT if they are setup wrong a GM/Motive gear will make noise as well..IMO you do get what you pay for on a gear install..And I know i would rather have it done right the first time.then have to redo it..

No offense but that couldn't be farther from the truth..There are no gears MADE for an F-body.Just for that type of housing. And if you ever do a Richmond or Strange gear those little #'s on the end mean something..And if you just R&R the gear without any adjustments yyou might get lucky,or you might end up ruining a brand new set of gears..To me it's not worth it..

That is what it's all about, the love of something.BUT do yourself a favor don't try to do gears on the side without the correct understanding and the correct tools..Reputations are easily scarred by bad work..

Now with that said.I do work on high performance cars for a living since 94. and i have done well over 500 or so GM 7.5's in the F-bodies "as well as over 1000 8.8's in Mustangs, along with other misc rears,9" 12 bolt, ect".
I have had every gear imaginable brought to me to install. And EVERYONE of them has needed some sort of pinion depth,or backlash adjustment to be perfect. It might be .001" or it might be .030" but to get it right it's not a remove old parts and reinstall new ones kind of affare..
I fixed 2 gears today that people with no clue"not saying that's you" tried to do a gear install..Both of them ended up having to buy new gears AGAIN to get them right.Once they are setup wrong and the pattern is worn"which can vary in mileage"they will never be right..

This post isn't to knock you in ANYWAY.I love when others work on their own cars..Getting LUCKY with 1 or 2 gears is all good.but it will come back to bite you in the end..Cause anyway you look at it.If someone pays you money to do a service it HAS to be done 100% correct to survive in this business doesn't matter if they pay $1 or $1000,They are still a paying customer..

So i gues i am saying Buy the correct tools, and learn exactly how things work and why in a rearend..Then if you do a good job people will return for future business..

Good luck in anything you decide to do..And if i can help out in anyway please feel free to PM me..I'll do what i can as far as tech advice..

I appreciate the advice, steve. I knew from your first post, you were a mechanic. It's pretty common for a performance shop to sniff out their competition. And I'm sure you probably have a1000 times the experience I do. But also, customers of yours are paying the price for your experience. I'm moving to the tampa area next week. If you have any openings in your shop, I'd LOVE the opportunity to come work for you, if your in the tampa area. Otherwise, if I can help a fellow f-body member out by doing performance work to their cars, I will. And I don't ask for much money. Just enough to help out. And because of the time it takes me to do work, and my inexperience, I generally charge half of what everyone else will charge. And if it is something I've never done before, I'd charge a 1/3 of what everyone else will charge, because it would be helping me gain experience. But again, if you have any positions open, feel free to let me know. THanks.
