tranny rebuild question

Took the car to Vette Masters, and they took my tranny to Lamotta per my request. Did the same thing last year and everything worked out perfectly. No problems at all with the tranny when I got it back.

Previous symptoms this visit were grinding into 3rd & 4th. Jake R&R'ed the blocking rings. Just picked the car up last night from VM - no more grinding. However, it intermitently doesn't like to come out of 3rd and 4th gears, and seems to have gotten stuck briefly in no-man's land between 3rd & 4th last night. No hard shifting. Other gears seem to be fine.

Jake's not in the office yet. I don't feel I should have to pay to have the tranny dropped and re-installed again (regardless of who does it). Plus the $30 of Royal Purple Syncromax ATF fluid which might not be able to be re-used(?).

Thoughts before I call Jake?

Hey Jim. I am thinking that if you had him work on it last year and it only lasted a year and now this, that maybe he is not as good as you were thinking.

That sucks though. My TA used to get stuck between gears a lot too. It looked like it was in gear but you would have to pull it back out of where ever it was and reinsert it.

As far as R&Ring the thing, since you asked to have it sent out I sincerely doubt they will do that part again for free. Had they shipped it out themselves then I would definately say that they were responsible. Hopefully this works out. This is why I hate to let shops touch my car.

Good luck. Let us know what happens.

Jim-

Take it to Harrell & Beverly, they're like 10 miles from you in Sanford. These guys are GREAT , I'm sure they'll fix whatever is giving you trouble.

I drove it to Jake's shop and it wouldn't duplicate the problem. Jake test drove it and it didn't show up either. Jake's best guess was that there was a little bur on the syncro from the old dogs which might be causing it to not disengage smoothly.

He said to let him know how it's behaving and if it's still a problem to bring it to his shop. He said if I drop it off in the morning I'd have it back in the afternoon. I would just need to pay for a 3-4 syncro - $150.

Glad to hear Jim. After what you said he did last week I thought he was going to give you crap about it.

Re: Harrel & Beverly - I'm going to give Jake the chance to make it right if the symptoms continue. It's the least expensive solution.

Going to H&B would be another 6 hours labor + parts. Just not in the budget.
