Those that autocross in here

I went Sunday for about 1 1/2 hours to watch at the Martin Sports club event. Looked pretty fun and I may want to give it a try sometime, just had a few questions.

1. Is there a particular order you go in? It seemed some cars were going once every five cars and others I only saw run one time (during round 1)

2. Do you have to have a particular score to be able to run in rounds 2 or 3 or does everyone run?

3. How many different classes are there and what class would I be in (novice since I've never been???)

4. Does novice have to have someone with them in their car (i probably would-but just curious)

5. Besides helmet, anything else necessary? (long pants, etc.)

6. Will having a 3800 stall make it a pain in the a** or not really have an impact?

Thanks

Re: Those that autocross in here

1) they go in the order of "classes" ... novice / stock first, then the next class, then the next class. they TRY to do this anyways, but it seems like both times i've been everyone just kinda goes whenever.

2) nope, 3 runs each. doesn't matter what your time is everyone goes 3 times.

3) there are a bunch of classes, but you'd be in novice for the first 3 - 6 times you go. they have a sheet when you get there that you read and put yourself into a class.

4) last time i went they didn't require it, but this time they did. when he sat with me my first run the guy didn't say anything, just sat and watched as my CD's flew out of my car around one of the final corners

5) helmit isn't necessary, they have loaners. you MUST have your battery tied down GOOD. they almost didn't let eric (mustangeater) run because his battery was flopping around, but we ghetto-fabbed something up and got it through tech.

6) no idea

one reason some cars went multiple times is because some people were shareing cars, so there'd be 2 drivers for one car.

Re: Those that autocross in here

Glad you came out and I hope that you will come back and give it a try. Anasazi hit on most everything so I'll try and fill in the rest.

1) There is a set run order but I will admit that we are fairly laid back about it. Technically it is round one novice/stock, prepared, race then round two it is race, stock/novice, prepared then round three is prepared, race, stock/novice.

3) You will run novice three times unless you win and then you will be bumped. The SS Camaros run in C class and due to the fact that you have gone into the motor you will be in race category so you would run CR. There is a weird clarification in the rules that states if you run 16" wheels then you can run in the GT class.

4) A novice instructor is not usually required but we did require one on this course because it was very fast. It's not the norm but an instructor can be very helpful none the less.

6) I ran a automatic until I converted to a six speed in December. I had a stock stall so I can't directly answer the question but what you have to get used to is the delay from when you start adding power until the car responds. With a high stall converter you're going to need to get on the power sooner than the manual transmission guys but it will just be a matter of adjusting to how the car responds when exiting a turn.

Come on out and have some fun, you won't regret it.

Agreed...

They do run in an order, this event seemed a little out of order then most. But for the most part you run with your class...(but if you sign up you have to work course work, where you sit at a station report bumped cones run out and fix them) The course workers kinda run out of order a little so they can get their runs in there should be at least 1-2 people at a station at all times.

Not completely sure on your classing but you will be novice first 3 times out. The v8 guys would know more, probably mroe specifically 2002z28SSconv(Chuck) since he ran an SS.

Its a blast, I'd have fun out their in a Kia Rio. Even not being competitive is still fun. Hell I am in a prepared class with a guy who came in 2nd for most points last season, my mods are ZR1s with kuhmo 712s, short shifter and newly installed LSD. Not much to an integra with race wheels/tires, intake exhaust and suspension work.

Street tires, thats about it. My Bimmer is "paper air filter" stock but I ran it in SMST this month because there was no one in E Stock and I'd get killed in E Prepared without race tires.

They must be 265's or narrower....

j/k Doesn't matter what size as long as they are street tires.

Re: Those that autocross in here

I didn't know you were there. You should've called me to let me know you were going.

According to the 2004 Rulebook (and I don't think they switched classes like E/F for 2005), Camaro SS (w/o 16" wheels) starts in B Stock, then moves to B Prepared, then A Race.

I wonder if they'd let Erik run in GTR with us? Erik should just get a used set of 17x11's, he can have my old Victoracers, and join GTR after he gets bumped out of Novice.... and find an instructor which does something constructive during the run instead of avoiding CD's I'd be very irritated if an instructor did that.
