Tech Ideas

I have an adelphia cable modem and want to finally setup my own file server I can store images on, acces from work, host my own web page. Adelphia is dynamic so I am looking for ideas/suggestions.


I have a 2K server box on my home lan with 512MB RAM @ 500MHz enough to do what I want for now...

you can get a free subdomain from quite a few places, but my favorite is no-ip (http://www.sytes.net/)

then basically set up IIS on your windows2k box (or install apache, recommended for a windows build that old) and you've got yourself a webserver. at your router you must forward the traffic from port 80 to your server box so people from the outside world can access it.

i HIGHLY recommend upgrading to winXP professional or Server2003 so that you can use remote desktop. i believe you can use terminal services in win2k to do the same thing but i've never messed with it.

I am building a server that likes to drive 100 mph on university, its gonna be madd fast yo.
