I just paid 150 bucks to have gears and a posi unit installed in my 65 Elky. The shop is about 15 miles North of Ocala on 441. Might be too far for you though.

damn... $150? any problems? I have a whining rear, if I came up with a set of new gears and a new(used) diff think they coudl get it in with no whining?

ande jeff roughly what did you pay? (if you don't mind asking) and woudl they basically refresh a rear so it would stop whining?

It has been a while but I think it was around $400 for the labor so $150 is dirt cheap. Yes I'm sure they could refresh your rear but it's probably cheaper to find a good used one.

yeah I know... already went that route, and it went south real fast... I also considered upgrading to a "not stock" gear.

and used rears are getting in the $250-300 range... an extra $100 isn't so bad.

Yeah, 150 was really cheap compared to the other quotes I got. I tipped the guy an extra 50 bucks. He did a good job, replaced all my bearings, and cleaned all the metal shaving out of the rear that was just about to go out on me )
The name of the shop is Pro Automotive in Orange Lake, FL. Guys name is Rob. Tell him Joe with the 65 ElCamino referred you if you end up using him. His number is 352-591-5788
