Angry Need Gears & Stuff

Well i've gotten different unbias opinions and they tell me the same, that my gears are very loud and sooner or later they're going to go out on me, so i better see to getting new ones. I suspected it all along, they have been sounding more and more over the months, but i choose to ignore it. So i guess now i have to look to replacing them. Well i've got several questions:

I have 2.73", should i keep them or go up? 3.42's or higher?

What exactly do i need to buy and do when i go up in gears?

What besides the gears are in that girdle that i would need to replace?

Can i pick up what i need at the junkyard?

I don't know i need help!

If you check *shudder8 www.slponline.com * shudder8 I know they seel takeoff gears that were barelyt used like 10 miles on them for pretty cheap. just SLP sometimes likes to take their time shipping stuff. I would trust those mroe then used gears, well the guy posted above looks like he has a nice set of gear for sale too.

Man.......i just got off the phone with SLP and looks like they'll charge me around $400 to go down in gears on my car! That's alot of money......i think i might have to stay with my gear ratio as it is now. I'd still have to reprogram my PCM, and 93's i have to get a whole new chip! Why do our cars have to be so expensive!

94REDSTALLIONZ ~ i might have to hook up with you for those gears........even though i wanted different ones......i can't afford them. I'll let you know, thanks!

Does anyone else have any ideas??

Question

GU5 - is 3.23 gears right??

If so, those are the ones i have. Would i still need a 3 series carrier, no right because i already have one. So i could just dump some 3.42 or 3.73 right?

Also, my mechanic suggested i just buy a new "pumpkin" with all the bearings and bolts in them already calibrated. Do you guys know how much that'll be???

If you keep an eye out in the forsale section used 3.23/3.42 gears usually go for ~$50.

Add the SLP posi and installation and the rearend should be like new for less than $400 (including labor).

Yeah, I've been checking the for sale section and on ebay. Hopefully i can get some cheap. What's going to kill me is the diff and the installation kit!

Also keep your eye out for an entire rear end. That would save you the cost of the install kit since everything would be setup.

My rear was dying so thats what I did. After a few weeks of looking I found one in Ft Myers for $200.

Plus IMO its easier to swap the entire rear than to setup the diff and gears so you might be able to do the work yourself.

Just something to think about...
