Modified Exhaust Statutes???
Modified Exhaust Statutes???
Ok, so I got pulled over by Orange County Sheriffs today around 920pm at the UCF entrance. The officer was fairly rude at first and I honesty had no clue why I had been pulled over. Come to find out I made an illegal lane change on University blvd (no blinker), I was speeding (officer never said how much till I asked afterwards...) and in FL. there is a statute addressing ANY modified exhaust...he didn't hit me on illegal tint even though he shined his light through it...
He claimed that he only pulled me over because of the exhaust and he just happened to see the other infractions...I was very polite and it paid off as I got a warning for illegal lane change and nothing else...
My question is: Is there really a statute against ANY exhaust modification in FL? I think he was just shootin in the dark there as he had no way of knowing that I have race headers...
My thoughts are that he was having a bad day so he pulled me over and since I wasnt going more than 48 in a 45 he didn't quote me a speed at first. He also claimed I was accelerating too fast, which was BS as I didn't exceed 3k rpms in 1st through 3rd gear TURNING off of Rouse onto University and I stopped at 1500rpm in 5th to cruise at 45-50 range...I honestly think that he pulled me over because of the usual stereotype on visually modified and/or 'sporty' cars (I've got z06 wheels and dual/dual tips) and he made up the stuff about the exhaust after he asked me why he pulled me over (I unintentionally played stupid and I know it pissed him off...). Also, I think he made up the speed as I told him if I know what gear I'm in all I have to do is listen to my exhaust and I'll know approximately how fast I'm going (which I stated to be no more than 50mph). Anyways I got lucky with only getting a warning (I have a clean record and am a student and he stated those reasons for giving me the warning).
So yea thoughts on this? Especially the statutes thing? I think if there were statutes against ANY modified exhaust as he stated that it would be illegal to sell performance exhausts (whether race or not...) in the state of FL...
/rant
On a side note, the officer did 'calm' down after he ran my info and was very polite and answered my questions after giving the warning.

Re: Modified Exhaust Statutes???
Most if not all States have laws regarding the modification of exhaust to make it louder. Does 5% of the population ignore this law? You bet! (me being one of them) That being the case, it is likely that you were selectively targeted by the cop, but that goes for probably 90+% of all stops. Bottom line is you broke the law and were caught/punished for it. It does earn you respect in my book that you man'd up and accepted your fine without complaining about how 'unfair' it was on here. Shows class in my book.
Re: Modified Exhaust Statutes???
Well, I realize my exhaust is 'illegal' but I wasn't aware that replacing with anything but 'stock like' was also illegal. I was and still am pissed that it was a stereotypically based stop, but yes I would have accepted all 3 tickets and only fought the speeding one in court. I'm just glad the officer realized I wasn't being the typical punk kid drivin a sporty car and gave me a break.
I do think it's amazing that when I do a hard acceleration, or really do speed or drive aggressively that I attract no cop attention...hell I've even harassed an unmarked car driven by a female cop (pretty hot...milf like) on 417 with my maro and a guy with a Vette and she didn't make a move to pull either of us over. Anyways, thats the first cop encounter that has exceeded the run the plate stage in this car...I went 11.5 months without a stop...not too shabby, especially with my aggressive nature and lead foot.
