Midnight Ride
Midnight Ride
It’s been a long hard two weeks at work. Short deadlines and plenty of overtime ... too much overtime. You’re worn thin and feeling the load ... and it’s only the middle of the week. Just laying here in bed staring at the dark ceiling and listening to the fan ... damn ... after midnight and you still can’t sleep ... and you need to get up early for that presentation tomorrow. What the heck ... you might as well go for a ride ... maybe that will help.
Out in the garage you enter your ride and start her up with the garage door closed. Just a few seconds until she settles into that steady lope you love so well. Garage door up and slowly out of the cave she comes ... you decide to be neighbor friendly and let her idle slowly down the street to the corner ... rumpita ... rumpita ... rumpita ... windows down and enjoying every stroke brings joy to your heart and a smile to your face.
A quick left at the corner and down the S-curve side road to the main drag. Pop into the 7-11 for a soda and to pop off the t-tops. Nice cool late night air is too good to waste. Fire her up and let her settle ... snick it into first and away you go ... a quick shot to 2nd is rewarded with a crisp chirp ... nothing too fancy at this hour ... nobody to impress ... just your inner self.
Cruising down the main street you revel in the mellow sound echoing off the businesses around you. At a moderate pace it seems to totally engulf you in a sea of bass and deep tones ... so deep it throbs your core. Time to hit the side road for a little traveling music out of those pipes. A couple of quick rights and you are almost lost in the darkness as the nether regions surround you quickly. Not wanting to be totally engulfed you stomp the load pedal and are rewarded with that hard firm push in the back ... nothing neck snapping ... but satisfying none the less. Up and down through the gears a few times and you’re back to a main cross street not far from home ... has it really been a hour ... seems like less. You feel at piece and alive with your surroundings ... nothing from work can enter this realm. Better take her home and let both of you get some rest.
Slowly down your street again ... remember the neighbors ... rumpita ... rumpita ... rumpita ... up the driveway and into the garage. Bring her to a stop as the garage door slowly closes down behind you and our world of dreams. Sitting in the dark you take in the slow cooling ticks of your salvation ride ... a little bit of clutch heat ... hot tires ... man life is good. You drop the seat back a couple of notches and close your eyes to relive the moments. Thankful for another Midnight Ride.

I tried to get my HunnyBunny to go for a ride last nite, but she would not.
Her convertible just releases all your problems when you drive it. just amazing how good it feels to roll the roof back and go cruisin with no destination.
well worded, brother

i'm bored at work...can you tell...sorry
It’s a hot summer evening, you’re stressed out from your boss at the grocery store….you realize…what a nite to go cruzin….
You tell your mom you are headin out, she bitches about curfew, you blow her off.. all you can think of is the open road. You jump in the ‘tegra and fire that bad boy up, as you back out of the driveway, you can’t resist it any more…ah the sweet purr of the engine …you hold the clutch, the tach needle rises…4…5…6 thousand…once..twice..three times for good measure.
Heading out of the development, tearing up the gentle curves, remembering back to the days before the cut springs, tokiko shocks and renegade wing when you never would have imagined taking these curves at 35 mph…man alive…feel those tires squeal…
At the light you fiddle with the cd player…hmm..Ja Rule or Eminem?…what am I in the mood for
You roll by the Dairy Queen, bass thumpin’..VTEC humin….a few honeys chillin next to some of your boys, wearin short skirts and tight pants…damn…good thing you splashed on some CK1 and grabbed the visor cause lady luck is out…
You decide to drive by and see what else is going on….at a deserted intersection you catch the red. Good time to heat the tires and get the feeling of racing again…you dump the clutch at 5grand, feel the car shimmy as that tire breaks free and starts puff some smoke. You ride out first full throttle, double clutch and power shift to second…god listen to those 4 pistons sing!!!…you bury the needle in the red on the tach, slam third gear…then let off…remembering the last time you got a ticket for 45 in a 30!!!
You cut a 180…cruz back to the DQ…flip the neons…just thinkin in your mind how those 18’s must be bling blingin in the glow of the street lights….man what a good nite…

nice story....
I know what you mean, tonight rough night left the building around 4am, drove down the street windows down, radio off, feeling hte nice crisp air, felt almost ot be in the 60s, haven't felt this type of air inawile, I jsut cruised, and started practicing some drag laucnhes and shifts, with the new tranny, clutch and torque arm bushing, all feels different then it used too.
i love a nice late cruise with nowone on the road.
