LS1 or LT1 swap into Sonoma, any experiance
LS1 or LT1 swap into Sonoma, any experiance
I am looking for someone to guide me or help me on an engine swap. I bought this thing with a 4 cylinder thinking of gas prices and all. THis is the reason I have been away a while. What a huge mistake. The wife wont let me get another toy so I figured the next best thing is to swap an engine in. I thought about a 4.3, but if I am doing the work, why not go all the way?
Thanks in advance
John

While looking for info for putting an LS1 into a Pontiac A-Body I came across a website that made a kit for putting LS1's into S-10's. I'll see if I can find it again.
Re: LS1 or LT1 swap into Sonoma, any experiance
rcst.com was not renewed as of 10/6. I checked out the other sites. Good info.
I was hoping for someone local to help, or fabricate, or guide me through. $225 for motor mounts and bases seems a bit high.
I keep going back and forth, but what it comes down to is that I really need a truck. So this is the best option, even though I have to admit that the wife is right.

i'd leave it alone.
i have done many things to car that destroyed thier value. the down time will be awful (expect twice what you expect)
really, just leave it alone, talk about it, plan it all out, price out peices, but DON'T TAKE YOUR TRUCK APART.
i straight-piped the diesel this week. $100 down the crapper. and I mean strait down. it's such crap, now i'll have to pay for a real exhaust, and put this $100 peice of crap in the trash.
i've seen you got skills in some your posts, but take a word of advice, pls, and leave it be, and tell the wife you took HER advice, double brownie points.
you'll roll up on another hot rod. just keep an eye and a word out
ps: i never did get my V8 S-1o running, FWIW, even though the donor car was running great.

I vote for LS1 in the Triumph. I saw a RX7 with a 302, and a TR7 with a 350. Bad cars.
If you want to do a V8 S10, I would trade yours for one with a 4.3. Most everything should work easy...
Still need to get together for a beer one of these days....
If you do the S10 V8 thing, I will give you a hand if you want! Always up for an adventure!

Re: LS1 or LT1 swap into Sonoma, any experiance
I have been contemplating this a while. I really dont care about the value, its only worth about $5500 anyway. I have at least 5 cars at any given time so downtime is not an issue.
As far as the LS1 in the TR7, I thought about it a lot, but it would take a ton of fabrication to make it fit. With the Sonoma, every thing is pretty much available to buy allready fabricated. If there is someone that could help fabricate things I am all into this.
Maybe I will just pick up an S10 4.3 wreck and do a V6 swap. I enjoy the punishment I inflict on myself.
Thanks
John

the 200hp camaro V6 is "supposed to be" a direct swap ?? that might be worthwhile, but not a S-10 V6.
put a G-CAI, relocate the IAT, add a big muffler on it, call it good. be amazed what that will do for it. we did that to buddy's, it was actually enjoyable to drive afterwards.
FWIW, $5500 is a TON of money. compare the Eclipse, I had $4k in it, booked high 4's, with a blown motor (basically the shape your S-10 could end up) it was worth almost nothing, I mean I got $1700 worth of stereo for a $4k car.
i hate cars now.

Re: LS1 or LT1 swap into Sonoma, any experiance
Put an LS1 in it. Whistler is selling one for just over $3000 with tranny and all. You could probably easily have it all done for under $5000 and have a car worth at least the $10,000 you have in it.
Any other V8 wouldn't really be worth your time. The LS1 would weigh the least and more be efficient (MPG +22 easily).
V6's shouldn't even be in your vocabulary. All that work and money just so you can be pissed off at yourself every day you fire the truck up and realize you could have had an LS1 in there.
