Looking for GOOD, REPUTABLE transmission rebuild in FL
Looking for GOOD, REPUTABLE transmission rebuild in FL
I have transmission troubles. I had no confidence in the last place I went to and now my trans is shot and they're out of business.
I want to hear of good places in FL for SOLID racing build-up. How long has your trans been running since you went to them and how often you race the car would help as well as the power your car is putting down. I want the best for my trans. Too many peolple think they know what they're doing, but actually don't.
I don't want to be rebuilding every year. My last one was 3,200 miles ago. Thanks. joe

Dofboy, thanks, but what kind of work did Norris Motorsports do for you. The more details the better please. I am really shopping around this time before I take my car anywhere. Thanks
Norris is a great shop and when my car needed a transmission I went there first. They don't do the automatics in house and sent me to the guy that does their work. Ken Wells with Ken's Performance is who they sent me to and he builds an awesome tranny. I'm a little different in that I autocross and road race with my automatic but so far the trannny has held up to everyting I can throw at it.
Give Ken a call and you won't be sorry. His number is 407-839-6129 and he is located in Orlando.

Don't go to Norris for a tranny rebuild.
Motor = Norris
Tranny = Ken Wells
Ken's Performance is the name of the shop, it's located near Down Town Orlando. Off of Orange Ave and Jasmin (I believe). If you would like I can find his number for you.

Ken Wells from Ken's Automotive in Orlando. Don't have his number handy but I'll get it and post it later if you need it.
My 4L60E has a shift kit, additional bands, modified to work off vacuum for clutch lock-up (no longer PCM controlled). My T/A is supercharged with 410 RWHP and 410 lb. RWTQ. I use Nitto DRs with a Currie 9+ rearend geared at 3.70. Best 60 foot is 1.73 while running a 11.76 @ 119 MPH. The tranny has lasted over four years with 186 dragstrip passes and about 22K street miles. I run her pretty hard on the street and the tranny has caused me no problems. I only have a 2200 stall converter so it is easier on the tranny.
Later ... Larry S.

Dynoed my car with low bottle pressure and made 430rwtq, ask anyone that knows me, I put this tranny through some shiot. It holds up to everything that I put it through.
I will always bring my trannys to Ken Wells.

I'd take the tranny out myself and make the 3 hr drive to his shop if the price is reasonable...

Give him a call this week. I got a quote for my 700R4 (non-electric 4L60), but it will be different as the price included a converter and me bringing the transmission in the car. I have my own new converter to go in so that will lower the price I was quoted.
I am not sure, maybe someone else can post how much they are or just give him a call on Monday and give him the specs of your car. Come to think of it, he probably builds the trannys to the cars and customers specification so the labor and parts could vary in price.
When he built my Turbo 400 we discussed the line pressure and he ask me exactly how I was going to drive the car. I said 98 percent Strip and a car show from time to time. He then said he needed to drop the line pressure from 210 down to 185 to "save" the transmission. So he had one of his tranny guys pull it off the shelf, and drop the line pressure right then. We loaded it in the back of my truck and then I ordered a Torque converter from him through the manufacture in Rockledge Fl (JW I think) that process took over an hour to determine how the future mods of the car would effect the converter/car.
