Insurance buybacks
How does it work when I "buy" my car back from the insurance salvage if they total it? I don't know if they'll total it for sure, but I'm pretty sure the car is junk, since the trunk wouldn't close without rubbing and the passenger door dropped an inch when I opened. The floorpan is bent upwards as well, along with heavy damage to the inner fenders, all the A/C stuff is ripped off, etc... Easily $5000+ damage with labor... Also rear quarter panel is dented in..
What's the average price for a heavily wrecked 93 Z28 on insurance buyback? Do I ask my agent when I go in tomorrow to claim the car? Do they HAVE to sell it back to me if I ask?
BTW I have State Farm...
Thanks

Just guessing here but once they total your car you have to agree to the value and don't let them low-ball you on this. After all they are going to tell you that it isn't worth much. You can take the cash or you can have them replace the car with one of equal value. The generally don't like this because they have to find the replacement car. They may up their offer to you accordingly. Once you agree to a value for them to pay you cash, then ask them how much they want for you to buy it back. I believe it will be sold back to you with a "Salvage" title so it can't be registered very easily (if at all). It might be worth converting into a dragstrip only car or just part it out if you think you can get more for the parts then what you pay the insurance company for the car.
If you don't like what they offer you say you'll need to think it over (yes you can walk away from their offer) and maybe talk with an attorney. Talking with an attorney (free legal advice must be available, check the phone book under attorneys) may not be a bad idea anyway.
Just my ideas.... they may or may not be correct.
Later ... Larry S.
BTW ... I also have State Farm for over 30 years. I've wrecked a few cars and always been pleased with their efforts. Never had one totaled though.

Yeah I know what you mean. I looked in the AutoTrader.com and found 93 Z28's for 4500-6000 range and my dad says the car lot replacement value is more like 6000-7000. It seems high, so I'm going to start from there. I'm kinda upset because they told me that my passengers medical treatment has to be covered by THEIR P.I.P. insurance first and mine will pay the 20% copay. None of my passengers have cars, and I told them that, so they said it'll be covered under their parents insurance. I'm not looking to get sued here. I'm just a bit upset at State Farm for not covering their injuries as well. It's pretty sick they told me it's easier to get a death claim than injuries claim. It's not really fair to my friends, I've paid a pile of money over the past 5 years for 100,000/300,000 PIP insurance and they shouldn't have to get their premiums to rise. If it becomes an issue I'm just going to pay their medical bill rather than deal with this insurance crap... The only expensive one will be the EVAC ride, the rest were cuts and scrapes treated as walkins... It's still going to be thousands of dollars though.

Hey dude, Florida's car insurance is pretty messed up. They say it's suppose to help the individual from getting in an accident with someone that doesn't have insurance.
I was in an accident in my moms car in the beginning of the year. I wasn't driving, but i still had to go threw my insurance to get medical payments taken care of. Each person in the car had to go through their own! My friend didn't have any so he had to go through his dads. Now my renewal package came in the mail and guess what, they raised my policy. What a surprise, they said it was because of "inflation". Florida's a backwards state, i can never figure it out!

Were the other people under 18. If so then as minor dependants, they probably will have to be covered under their parents' policies. But if they were over 18 they shouldn't be classified as dependants and should be covered by yours (if they have none). That makes the most sense to me anyway.
Just don't pay it yourself. That's what they want you to do, so they don't have to. I'd suggest talking with legal counsel before even calling your agent again. Watch out for your best interests. You know they are!
well man, I know a guy with a 93 Z, automatic that is selling his, its in autotrader for I belive 5600? Its pretty nice car, runs good... That is just if you are looking for another car identical to your old one, probably different color his is maroon.
I have a friend that is selling a 91 lx foxbody mustang 5 liter, with e303 cam, small mods.. 3300.00 red in color, has rebuilt ( it didnt need it but he wanted to do it ) auto to manual swap, tremec 5 spd... Just letting you know what I have around my area that i know of , good cars for sale..
Good luck buying it back, when I had my nissan, it got rear ended, statefarm was the other persons insurance they fixed my car, they wanted to total mine , and wouldnt discuss selling it back to me.. So they are crap in my book.
