the camaro is just the poor man's vette

time for the vette upgrade

HOWEVER

you know the history of your car, and and all problems it has had ... you won't know that about a new (used) car. is it worth the gamble ?

also, do realize that when buying a vette NOW that in about 6 months you'll have:

1) last year's body style
2) a car that just dropped in price DRAMATICALLY because of the new bodystyle

Ahh but come on now, let's be honest, a Corvette's a Corvette.

And besides, it's not like the ladies will really notice the difference.

The Corvette's price is not going to drop that much more. It will drop a little more when the C6 is available but that will be about it. It took the biggest drop about 6 months ago.

I do realize I'll have an out dated car with an "obsolete" engine.

However, in the end I'll still have a C5 corvette sitting in the garage. Its not like I have a snowball's chance in hell of a affording a C6...so that argument is out the window.

By the way...if you guys catch a Black C5 with Black leather, let me know. It HAS GOT TO BE a 6-speed...no compromising there.

So Dan looking for something like this....

2001 Black on black leather, 6-speed, targa top, chrome Y2ks, 31,000 miles

He picked it up last november(when I bought my newer v6 off him)

Go with the vette... I have had 3 f-bodies, granted they were v6s, but all hp aside... the car is just a completely different car. It handles like its on rails, and I think you woudl be one of the people who would actually DRIVE the vette. It turns heads like you would not believe, people actually yell out at you "nice car, or HIT IT!" which rarely happens in any of my f-bodies, well happens a decent amount when I ran open pipes... And honestly the vette feels more economical.... I know it seems hard to believe buy pop that hatch on the vette, then pop the hatch on your camaro and look.

Problems to look for.... expensive, and hard to work on for the vette. While the F-body is the opposite.

Just talking about it wants me to run down to south florida and slap a few more coats of Zaino on my car and convince my dad that it needs to "bond to the paint all weekend" and to let me drive the vette all weekend.

I say go for the Vette. I've had 5 of them and even though I love the f-body, they don't compare to a Vette. IMHO, a one or two year old Z06 is the best beformance buy out there.

As much as I want the Z06...I really can't afford one. The insurance is also higher on the Z06. Believe it or not, my insurance is actually gonna go down $30/6 months going from a Z28 to a vette....kinda freaky.

Not really... young'ns go tearing around in f-bodies getting in wrecks where lots of the vette owners are middle aged and drive it as a 2nd car

My experience with a Z06 was limited(Autoshowinmotion) there is a difference between it and a C5, but a C5 is no slouch, still a huge upgrade.

I mean alot of people gave me crap for not picking up an older lt1 when I got my current v6, but hey, still was about a 1 second in the 1/4 mile upgrade for me getting this v6.

By the way Eric, your dad's vette is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going down to S. Florida this week to take a look at one that is pretty much identical to that but w/out chrome wheels. I have a feeling this is gonna be "the one".
