Re: hurricane version 2.0

In all seriousness, the models have started to trend a little bit south and a little bit west. By 5pm today we should have a better idea of what this thing is going to do. I've had a gut feeling for the past 2 days or so that it was going to come in through South Florida. If this is the case I want to extend an invitation to any members in that area that need a place to go. I'm up in Ormond Beach, and if it looks like landfall will occur in south Fla. and this thing moves to the NW we should be in "ok" shape. Feel free to drop me an IM or e-mail if anyone down there needs any assistance.

As much as it sounds bad a South Florida Hit would make my life easier in Orlando.... Charley tore us up in my neighborhood. Better to share the joy ;(

It will be in a garage but if we take a direct hit my garage door is not going to stand up to those kinds of winds. I'll be watching this one closely.
Cool. Someone else from Melboring. Well not so boring now.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm sh!tting my pants right about now. If this thing stays on its current track, it is going to engulf the entire state almost at once. I don't think anywhere in Florida is safe. Combined with its massive size, the slow speed at which it's moving is very scary. We're talking sustained 100+ winds for HOURS and HOURS, not like 1 hour or 2 from Charley. Also, all the debris laying around the state is going to make for projectile city. I don't know what to do. I'm scheduled to work Friday night, I don't think I'll be going.

Re: hurricane version 2.0

ITs pretty fecked up...

You guys think boarding some windows from the inside woudl be worth it?

I could give a **** if my windows get blown out, just trying to keep some wind out. Plans would be 3in, wood screws through wood and into the frame.

This thing is freaking me out a bit, I am going to be in Orlando.

Off hand anyone know if UCF is going to have any shelters, like you know 1st floor of Math and physics building(Brick and block building that is underground)

I am debating if I am going on campus because I assume they will have some sort of shelter setup. Staying at my place. Or going to my work.

I would assume they would have some sort of shelter on campus...but who knows. My brother lives in the dorms and he got a note slipped under his door today from his RA saying that they have to notify them by 10:00 pm tonight as to what their plans are for the hurricane.

If your windows go out, then chances are your roof will follow quickly after, because the air pressure inside will push the roof up and assist in blowing the roof off. At least this is what I heard from some guy on the radio.

this is true

the first thing to go because of wind pressure is the garage door and the windows because of stuff flying into them.

once your garage door is gone, your house is gone. its a proven fact ... i've seen many discovery channel specials to know this

I agree... that all happens, I half know the physics of hurricanes... been around them.

Difference is this is my first one in an apartment building, I am on the 2nd floor of a 3 story building. I technically have no roof or garage.

Guess I better chain my garage door up. Don't want the hawk and the house to go at the same time. Thanks for the insight.

Re: hurricane version 2.0

well looks like I will have to put my car in the shop, it is separate from my house, and chain the axle to the posts that run down into the concrete, cuz if it flys away I am sol because I only have pip insurance. Ocala lucked out on charlie, they said it would be bad and all we got was a light drizzle. I felt bad for yall down there, watching what was going on on tv was pretty messed up. I live in a trailer too, I aint scared lol, actually i am scared ****less my house will fly away!
