Post First time at OSW!!

i just moved down to florida about a week and a half ago. i was driving arounded and ended up passing by OSW. so i took my Z there a few nights ago. i read some posts about it being too hot to run our cars. i was just wondering how much the heat really does effect our cars?!?! so far my car has TB bypass, 160 therm., CAI, JET module, and a cutout. this was my first time ever at a track and the best i could pull off was a 14.2 i was hoping for at least 13.9 my reaction time was 6.65. On all 4 runs i could not crack 99.9mph. still had a good time just was hoping for some quicker times. how many of u guys go there regularly?! what do u guys usually run?! thanx in advance for any responses.

reaction time of 6 seconds?? wow...though my nice calm 1.5sec was bad...lol

anyway,
14.2 isn't bad considering it was probably in the 80 and humid. what kind of traction did you have? as in what was your 60ft time?

you need a 2.0 or 2.1 to get a decent time. i've been doomed to a 14.2 also with similar mods due mainly to NO traction and really hot and humid track conditions...

don't worry, winter cool air and low humidity is great for racing...give it a few months...

meet up with the local guys and they'll give you some tips...

i think i saw you, did you have a passenger or someone that was hanging out w/you every once and awhile? i was in the black '95 z28. the best i could pull was 14.4 with a passenger and my only mod is CAI so basically stock. my friend was the guy with the blue w/ white stripes '67 ford 302 mustang that was running high 16's.

a brand new SS ran 14.1 against me and when i asked what his best was for the night he said 13.6. i'm not sure if he ment his best ever or best for the night. the track wasn't super super fast cause of the high humidity and high temps.

i was the dumbass that when they first opened the track i drove through the burnout pit and so i had no traction at all the first run... stupid me and probably pissed off a few people, but hell did it make a lot of smoke. lesson learned, won't go through it again, beginners mistake.

i'm hooked now... i might be going again this friday night... but 20 bucks for me and the g/f is kinda an expensive thing to do every week.

It might be a little hot out, not really oyur engine temp tyhat effects things, but more air temp.

the cooler the air, and less humidity, the more fuel you can burn with it that equals more power.

I might be going out tonight, was going to do my brakes but I am lazy, and a friend said he was oging to be going out tongiht and his fiancee might have a video camera.

Was it hte one with the dealer plate in the rear hatch?

either way i had 2 personal records today, i hit a 2.078 60' on street tires with an et of 15.807, and I hit my worst time ever in my car, 17.32, I missed second 3 times in a row, and had a freind in the passenger seat.

Better then I thought, humid as hell out there.

At least i was 7/10ths of a second faster then the fastest v6 stang out htere, and he has a 99+ v6, which is 35 hp more then mine stock for stock.

yep that was me.

i just convinced my friend with a 3.4L v6 camaro to come out friday so i'll be there again, prolly with the girl. he'll be the guy in the white '94 v6 camaro with custom "checkered flag" racing stripes on his hood and i'll be the stock black '95 z28 with the girl in the passenger seat.

all i know about places to hang out is the corner of 50 and 436 at about 10 or 11 on friday nights... basically ya keep driving down 50 when the track closes. i've never gone but might go this friday depending on how tired i am, i've had some long days.

You know someone with a 3.4L camaro that may be convinced to race it?

yep

he's got a drop-in K&N replacement filter and an exhaust with glasspacks... other than that he's pretty much stock i think.

he's going to be there this friday last i talked to him, but its going to be very difficult to get him to come a second time after friday. he's afraid of loosing every race and is only expecting a 17+ second time, which isn't too off i'd guess.

a friend from work is also bringing his stock 2001 ford ranger v6 truck. i think we're going to put the v6 ranger against the v6 camaro and see who'll win

too bad you can't come out, i've seen your car around the UCF area.

oh and unrelated...

mustangeater, you used to autox or road race or something right? how did you tie down your battery? my battery is currently flying around and i think setting off my low-coolant sensor and its starting to get annoying, although i thought it was kinda cool that i could say "yea, i drained my coolant for the weight savings" at the track and get wierd looks

omg they let me run in the rain with a WRX... he had no problems at all of course but on the 1-2 shift my tires broke loose and i nearly pulled a 90 degree turn on the track. they shut it down for about half an hour after that happened.

ran a new best of 13.9 against a late model mustang GT ... i was so happy to look over and see he was behind me when we crossed the finish that i was prolly screaming.

http://anasazi.hn.org/z28/timeslips/2002-7-27.jpg

there were quite a few camaro owners there, and they were all very friendly. got into some good conversations with some and even a mustang fan came over to ask questions cause he was thinking about getting an f-body

traction sucked for everyone, i pulled constant 14.2's with 2.3 - 2.4 60' times all night except for the 13.9 early in the night before the humidity and the rain.

got a great laugh when the rice went ... 16 - 17 seconds... wow ...

mustangeater, my friend with the v6 was pulling high 16's and low 17's ... the track people put him up against mustangs every time he raced. it was so sad . he really wanted another v6 camaro to run with.
