F#&%*$G Opti crap!

I think mine just took a huge dump on me.

How hard to replace it? Anyone willing to help?

not hard, just a lot of bolts

takes a lot of time though... what are your symptoms?

you'll need waterpump gaskets, some way to get the old waterpump off the block (nice wire brush or something), coolant, umm opti... plenty of extensions and sockets... other than that its pretty streight forward except you gotta remove the AIR and AIR pump bracket to get at a bolt, and there is a bolt behind the power steering pully that is a bitch to get to but is possible to get to without removing the pully, just need the right extensions and some patience.

It ain't too bad, and is pretty straightforward. You basically have to remove a bunch of crap from the front of the motor including the water pump, moving the AIR pump, all intake tubing, water hoses, harmonic balancer.. etc. Everything unbolts out of the way.

Make sure you put the opti on correctly and it will be fine. I have heard somepeople managed to put them on incorrectly (I have no freaking clue how, since it's keyed) Do NOT force it on.

Do NOT use anything but an AC Delco opti. Parts store replacements are garbage. I have a friend of mine who used an aftermarket POS and it died on him a couple months later. I used OEM. If it's good for 110k miles on my car, it should be good for another 100k. Do a search on here and see where the best place to buy one is from. Water pump leakage is the most common culprit of the opti crapping out, and you might want to check that out also. I've done two opti's, one on my 95 and and other on a friend's car.

What are the car's symptoms now?

No problem w/ the WP, I have an EWP, very easy to remove and put back... No hasle what so ever...

Symptoms:

Runs good cold... 10 minutes later like crap... Stumbles over it's self under any load... Misses everywhere... Then it gets bad, lol... Idles like it's got a huge cam, and no tunning... 5 minutes later it will get so bad that the idle spikes from 50-900... Soon there after makes a god aweful sucking sound... Shuts off... Wont start back up untill it has cooled for atleast 30-45 minutes.

If it's missing, it's probably the opti...

Also, my car ran horrrible from a clogged cat, wouldn't rev and stumbled...

Good Luck!

I have done mine twice in the past four months. I bought my car in August '02. I did it last week in about three hours, by myself! Buy from Jason Cromer at Sam Taylor in Ft Walton Beach Fl. It comes with a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty. If it goes bad in the next year, take it to your LOCAL dealership and have them warranty it out. You do not have to send it to him. I did the vented swap on my 93 and it cost $379 total, no shipping I'm about an hour from him in Pensacola. I did the LT4 hotcam at the same time. I am fixing to have to do the WP relacement. It is leaking from the weep hole, that is what keeps killing my opti. I saw it before, but it didn't look bad. Now it does. I think I'm going with an eletric WP this time. Hope this helps. Jason's # is 1-877-726-8295. I think you have to metion you saw it on the web to get the deal. He rings it up as "Internet Sales". I can get the P/N's if you need. He knew them off the top of his though. Long, but I hope this helps.

Doesn't matter if its an electric pump or not. You still have to remove the aluminum housing from the block like everyone else or the opti isn't going anywhere
