1997 pcm in a 1996

I remember reading some post I think in this BB and the V6 BB that a 1997 pcm will work and fit in a 1996 car as long as both a Auto trans and smae gear ratio. I know intense-racing has has 1997 v6 pcm's for $99 bucks plus core. So I want to get a reporgrammed pcm, anyone have an idea?? Eric?

I "think" it will work no modification... I know there is a way to put it in there, relatively easily, but not 100% sure if you just swap it in or if you have to do anything funky for the guage cluster.

check www.firebirdv6.com to know for sure...

What kind of tuned PCM are you getting... 97s seem to be popular, because the 95 and 96, people can't use HP tuners they have to get a 97 PCM then swap it in and use it.

PS if you look around I think there are some people in the o-town area with hp tuners for 97s... (just no one with one for '00 )

I'm getting an Intense Racing pcm, it is something they do. 1997 and above 3.8's. It's 99 bucks, the 10 bucks for any a la carte items(gear change etc) So I'm going to get a new tuned pcm for 110 bucks plus a 50 core so I can keep the original pcm. they raise shift points an firmess, set the colling for an 160 degree therm.

pretty cool, and pretty cheap. might get 20 crank hp.

honestly... if you really want, I'd look for people with hptuners... they coudl do all that in 20 seconds on your car, then tune it better then they ever will in a mail order tune.

HP tuners is pretty popular, I think there are like 3-4 people with it for various year v6 f-bodies.
