what causes this light to come on? what do i check first? it just came on when i cranked it up today.

 

It periodically comes on hear and there in some cars. It signals that the anti lock brake system will fail. Usually you can turn the car off and back it on it will turn off. Sometimes the sensors being wet can cause it. Now if it stays on or comes on frequently you have a problem with the system or the system will fail because you brakes are shot and need to get it checked out. At the current time my buddy is having a problem with his 98 cutlass, with the light staying on all the time, He got new brakes and the dealer cant seem to figure out the problem. THe antilocks still appear to work.

 

Got to have the error code. Retrieve it, reset the code to clear it and see if it returns. If it does, there is a clear diagnostic method to determine the source of the code.

Once you have seen the same code twice it's easy.

burnt tail lights cause the abs inop light to come on

 

i get the same thing from time to time.. ill have my ebrake down and my brake light will stay on and my abs inop light will be on at the saem time.. only happens sometimes..
