Gears 4.10 or 3.73?

I recently got Jethot LTS, comp xe grind 224/230 555 lift, stage 2 heads and new valve train to support the cam. Next thing I wanna do is gears I will be running bfg drag radials or equivalent. This car is a M6. What are the benefits and drawbacks of each. I know the 4.10s have a tendancy of breaking about once a year but later Ill be getting a 12 bolt anyway so I really dont car about that. Ill also be doing alot of suspension work soon, like sfcs, stb, panhard bar. But basically I just wanna know which ones would be better my revlimiter will probably be around 6100-6300 so I wanna come across the line at the end of my powerband.

Slap some 4:10's in there. You'll love it. Like you said your gonna swap to a 12 blot later.

what was your trap speed? I cross the finish line in 4th too at 5500rpm with 26" tall tires too and I have 410s. My usually MPH is 109mph. This year I hope to gain atleast 6mph but I'm staying with 4.10s.

I would think that unTamedLS1's optimal gear ration for his mods would be 4.10 since he should be trapping between 110 and 115mph. Thats is unless he plans on using Nitrous Oxide

I had 4.10s on 17'' wheels and they sucked. I would smoke the hell out of my street tires. Since I recently had 3.73's installed it hooks alot better.

Untamed..., how do you like that XE CC? MY buddy just had the same cam installed and it picked him up alot. Before he had the same mods as me and we ran side by side. Now that he put that cam in he wanted to see how much difference it made so we ran em. We bumped them off in 2nd gear and by the time we were half way through 3rd he had me by about 2 car lengths. I couldnt believe the difference. He is also running this cam with stock heads. I cant wait to see how nasty its gonna be with some good "head" work.

First off, I'm guessing that cam would like a little more RPM than that. Regardless, get her on a dyno, see where she makes the power, and don't rev it to the point of valve float of course.

But, assuming a stock-diameter tire (25.66"), 6300RPM, 4.10 gear, that calculates out to 117.3MPH in 4th. Good gear as long as you DO NOT RUN A POWER ADDER. If you do decide to, say, spray the car, you'll have to run 28" tall tires, or you'll simply run out of gear.

Now, if for some odd reason you decide to make your redline 6100, with the same combo as above, you'll be at 113.6MPH....that's getting very marginal with what you have done to the car. Idealy, you'd be going through the traps in 4th gear about 100-200RPM under your redline. Having the right gearing is pretty important; sadly, mine BLOWS for N/A runs (going through the traps at 6900-7000 in 3rd but of course I rev my car out pretty high ).

Gears?

Will aftermarket 4.10 gears work in both the LS1 and LT1 cars? My friend bought some for his 2002 Z28 and he wants to sell them but i am not positive that they will work in my 1997 Z? I am pretty sure that its all the same but just wanted to make sure before i bought them from him. Thanks

RedLT1Z yes they will work as long as they are for the same carrier as his carrier fir instance if he has 3:23 gears or higher and you have 2:73 gears the swap wont work but if he has 2.73 gear and you do too then it will work. So just make sure you have the same carriers. If you both have 6 speeds then you should both have 3 series
