Fuel pressure regulator

I think that a new fuel pressure regulator is going to be my next project, but I have a few questions.

-how much hp

-what pressure should i run

-how much fuel milage is lost

-how hard is the project

Thanks,
Greg

not alot of horsepower gain but i would recommend it highly especially for the price...pressure varies depending on whats done to the car you just have to test and tune factory is around 42...you shouldnt notice much of any lose in mpg...easy to do if you buy the whole regulater and not just the top you can change it with out taken the fuel rail off but most have to because of the torx on the bottom (hard to get to)

Do a search and you will find some info on this subject. I have done this mod on my 93 and picked up 10 rwhp and 17 rwtq. The mod seems to work better on Speed Density cars. I do not think it is a worthwhile mod for your car.

I agree with IDOX----I put one on my 94 and saw no increase in power or drops in my time slips. OE pressure in mine was 44 Psi and I would bump it up 2 psi up to 50 and my ET's would drop. If you're planning to add heads or aftermarket cam, then it would be a good thing. For the meanwhile buy crank pulley or cold air induction----to add more ponies to your ride---that is if you don't already have them.

You should actually decrease the fuel press. to see hp gains. These engines are pig rich from the factory. Thats probably why you didnt gain anything. Ideal psi for bolt-on motor is 36-37psi as far as I know.

RQ>> I tried that too---just forgot to mention it----Went up to 50 and down to 34or 36 and ran 13.70's and 14's( ). I guess my car just loves 44. @ 44 I ran consistent all night, 13.50-51 three times. Oh well, some cars like it some cars don't. You just never kwow.

Cool. I hear what your saying about cars respond different. I peaked in hp @ 11.0-11.5 A/F. Then I went to 12.0-13.0 A/F and lost hp! Who knows

I agree that most near-stock MAF cars like a little less pressure. 93 car w/ speed density gain more from this due to the fact that the car makes no incoming air recalculations w/ new bolt-ons. Unfortunately, GMs factory tolerances for their injectors are +,- 3 pounds. IN the case of 3gens, the tolerance was more like 5#s. I picked up over 23hp and 15#s of torque when I had my 85 IROC just by buying a set of blueprinted injectors that all flowed w/in 2% of each other.

I don't know about speed density cars, but I do know that the MAF cars will not see much of a gain overall. You will see a lot at first, but the pcm will correct the a/f mixture, and you will be back to where you started from. Check out www.ws6.com for the evidence. I was going to do this mod but I have decided to save the cash and get an interface cable and TunerCat or LT1 Edit. The money is far better spent there anyway
