Could someone please explain head flow numbers to me?

Could someone please explain head flow numbers to me?

I always see everyone posting head flow numbers and really I have no idea what is goin on. What is stock, what is considered good? Any help would further my knowlege of these cars..

flow numbers are VERY relatve to the head your working on and the flow bench testing it, the condititons it tests under and then there are issues such as velocity and peak flow vs average flow.

if your asking for a simple breakdown, its how much air can flow through a port at a given lift.

ie
190 cfm @.550' lift is about where stock lt1 heads flow

190 cubic feet of air when the valve is pushed open .550 inches
