Cooling fan operation

Hey, my dads 1995 Camaro cooling fans are not working properly. Both fans come on on High speed 30 seconds after starting the engine and stay on at all times except when: he applies the brakes or puts it in reverse. Its been a while since Ive seen the car so I dont remember if it has 2 or 3 relays (early or late production). Ive seen this descrption about early and late production for '95 and '96 cars, so I would assume it is an early production.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Cooling fan operation

It is 94 that had the Fan 1/Fan 2 (early) and both low/both high (late). My late 94 has three relays. GM forgot to update the 95 factory manual diagram. 95 should all be 3-relay both low/both high. 96 factory manual completely redrafted the wiring diagrams.

The most common cause of fans coming on at startup is an active diagnostic code. Have you scanned it for codes?

On the other hand, never seen or heard of a case where the fans turn off when the trans is in reverse or the brake pedal is pushed. Is this a recent development, or has it done this as long as he has had the car?

Re: Cooling fan operation

Hey Ijuneer, I finally got a look under the hood, and you are correct. It does have 2 cooling fans and 3 relays. It also had one of the biggest mouse nests Ive ever seen, on the passenger side of the Intake manifold. The first thing we need to do is to replace the #2 fuel injector connector and do some other wiring repairs.

Thanks for your information so far, and I will get back to you once we have the car up and running.
