Broken Trans mount?

I have a 94 Z with automatic transmission and have been told I have a cracked transmission mount. Can this mount be removed and welded or should I start searching for a new one??

Re: Broken Trans mount?

It's hard rubber. Has to be replaced. ES polyurethane replacement is a lot stronger, but may cause some vibration that can be annoying.

I have a 6 speed but my mount was like $12 from the dealer and was as simple as removing a few bolts.

Re: Broken Trans mount?

I did a mount replacement yesterday. Got a rubber one at the auto parts store for $10, put the car on jacks, lifted the rear of the trans with a jack, took off the cross member, removed the broken mount, bolted up the new one, etc. Took me less than an hour and I've never done that before. I have an M6, both trannies use the same rubber mount. You can go the polyurethane route, it transmits more vibrations but is stronger.

Go with an ls1 trans mount. Stronger than the lt1 mount. Doesn't cause the vibrations that the poly mounts transfer into the car. I've had the same one on my car around 7 yrs now. Make sure you get the nut that goes with it.

Didn't know there was a difference between the LT1 and the LS1 mounts.

Re: Broken Trans mount?

They will keep breaking if your torque arm bushing is shot. I went through mounts daily, then band clamped one and it lasted a month. Noticed the tq arm bushing had almost 3/4 inch play. Drilled it out, cut out the rubber put in the poly bushing zip tied it shut, I stalled and not a broken mount in over a year.
