95 Z28 high rev at WOT - auto trans

I typically drive my Camaro fairly conservatively. The other day however, I couldn't resist when a new mustang gt pulled along side me on the highway. We were already doing 70ish when we punched it. I immediately noticed my car jumped to over 6k rpms but didn't accelerate accordingly. I backed off the gas then slowly pushed the pedal forward. The Z28 responded as i would expect, pulled hard and kept accelerating. Why would the car jump to 6k rpms but not take off when nailing the pedal at 70? Computer setting?

hate to say it but the tranny going out... how many miles? mine did the exact same thing... you drive it right it shifts right... try to hot rod it around some and it wont shift or down shift and hit the rev limiter... eventually i was on cruise control and all of a sudden i had no drive....

Only 77K miles. it's never been a hot rod and has always been a garage queen. It would surprise me that with normal sunny day pampered driving the transmission would already be going out.

You might want to scan the PCM for codes. There are several codes related to the auto trans. These codes do not turn on the SES light, so you need to scan it. A 20 year old transmission can deteriorate just from age.

In the way of a "second opinion", you might want to post your issues, in detail, on the "Drivetrain" forum. We have a member who is a trans builder, and he usually drops in about once a week to respond to posts.
