Install on new Starter...got one?

I have a 94 a4 Z28 and I'm replacing the starter on it soon. Does anyone have a write-up or can you give me some advice? Is this even possible at home (with little tools and decent knowledge of car and maintanance). How much can I get a starter for and if you have a price, can you hook me up on a direct link (website) that has it for that price? Thanks

2 bolts, 2 wires, very easy to do. Unhook the battery so you dont remove a finger electrocuting yourself. 15mm socket for the bolts, an extention will be needed.

yeah...its easy and straightfoward. biggest thing to do is to remember to unhook the battery or you're in for a spark shower. some people drop the y-pipe but i think thats more trouble then its worth....just take your time snaking it up there.

I think on an auto, you might have to drop the y-pipe to be able to get the starter out.

With a stock y-pipe in an auto, you do not have to drop it in order to get to the starter. I didnt anyways, dont hate me if Im wrong. You have to play with the starter to get it out and in but otherwise, its a snap. With an aftermarket y-pipe, you do have to drop it to get to everything. It makes it alot easier anyways. Good luck.

You can finagle the starter around the y-pipe if you disconnect the transmission cooler lines.

I put in a CVR Pro Torque in my Trans Am, to get the starter out the only thing that had to be taken out was the torque converter cover shield. Couple of bolts, nothing amazing. You can press the lines back enough to get the starter out. The CVR is yourdecide to get it, your going to have to notch the plate in the top left corner, it woulnt sit right if you dont.

I'd give it a shot before I pulled the Y pipe. I can do it with headers and aftermarket Y pipe with no problem. Just takes a bit of manuevering. the wires are a bit of a pain though. I found it easier to use a long flexible nut driver to get the small nut on from the front.

anyone have pictures of this? Also a friend of mine told me to try partsamerica.com I went out and looked and found a starter for $210 it comes with a lifetime warranty along with a $55 core charge (so 155 for the new starter plus lifetime warranty). to me, that is a really nice deal.
