00 or 01 WS6 10 bolt 3.42 in a 95 Z??

Would this work fine, or would there be problems swaping the rearends out? I am curious before I buy the rearend. Just want to make sure so I dont get screwed when I try to swap my 2.73 for the 3.42

I can't see any reason why they would be different.

The brakes are totally different and the ABS will be, too (at least compared to non-traction control cars). I know there are people that have done the swap, though. Have you tried a search?

Don't mix the LS1 axles with LT1 brakes and vice-versa.

Thumbs up

Good call Rob. I was thinking of the mounting aspect only.

Really??? Wow, I didnt even think about the brakes being different between LS1's and LT1's. What makes them different???

The design. The caliper mounting bracket, caliper, rotor and parking brake mechanism are all different. Performance is not much different, though (unlike the better LS1 front brakes). The axles are also a slightlly different length because of the brakes. That is why I advised not to mix LS1 and LT1. If you keep the axles and brakes together, you can swap them to either housing without any difficultly.

My 12 bolt is from an LS1 car, as said before, you need to do some special spacing and stuff to get things to work, but it can be done.

Toni its JT. Yes you can swap the rear ends no problem. ONLY as long as the car there coming out of does not have traction control either. Usually the seller does not include the brakes, or axels anyway. So you will be swapping your brakes and axels into this rear end. I did this about a month ago its simple. Just make sure it is non-tcs like yours.

Why get an LS1 rearend? Unless you're getting a super sweat deal and your LT1 rearend is blown there's no benefit to upgrading. In fact I have heard from LS1 owners that the LS1 rearends have a known defect that causes them to blow easily under light abuse. Met a guy that had his LS1 rearend replaced three times by GM. Get a 12 bolt or 9 inch if you want to upgrade it.

He is getting it because the gears. Not because it came out of an LS1. Its just a lot easier to do a complete rear end swap then buying gears and paying up the butt for gear installes. I recently purchased a complete 10 bolt with GM 4.10's. Paid $250 for complete rear end and it even had LCA relocation brackets welded on. Took maybe an hour and half to install. Saved TON of money over buying gears seperately and having them installed. Oh, and I even sold my stock rear for $200. Total cost = $50.00 for complete rear with GM 4.10's, Welded LCA relocation brackets!!! beat that :-)
