cranking noise on my 2001 z28

i just got my z28 and i hear some wierd cranking noise when i put it in reverse or break at first i thought it was the rims it came with ( 24's) way too big and i already changed them but i still hear it could it be some spacers that the previous owner put on it or something really serious ....hoping its just something simple like the arm bushing like i had on my other camaro any similar problems????

Hard to know what a "cranking noise" is. Any other way you can describe it? Most people think of "cranking" as the sound the engine makes when the starter "cranks" it.

Does it make the noise when you simply put the trans in reverse, before you start moving, or only when you start to move backwards?

When you apply the "brake" (I assume that's what you meant) is the noise continuous, or intermittent? Does it occur under all levels of braking effort and at all speeds? Have you checked the brake pads for wear?
