Racetronix raplacement fuel pump on a V6 F-Body
Its a 2002 Firebird, 3.8L engine. I replaced my fuel pump with a racetronix pump. I had a shop do the work and shortly after they moved out the state. The fuel pump supposedly doesn't require modifications to the system but the shop told me they did have to modify the fuel bucket and I'm not 100% sure but they might have had to change some wiring but I don't know. I also had them replace my fuel gauge sending unit but my fuel gauge still doesn't work.
Well the problem is, when I got my car back it didn't want to crank the first try, the second try it cranked okay but it had NO power whatsoever. Eventually the car overheated because a coolant elbow exploded and sprayed antifreeze everywhere and the car ran redline temperatures for a moment but it survived from what it seems. I tried later to start it and I couldn't get it cranked for my life. Another mechanic eventually replaced my MAF and O2 sensors (I had codes for both of those) and it starts up but lopes and idles bad...and eventually dies again when the car warms up.
The compression and fuel pressure tested to be okay, 140 PSI on all cylinders except cylinder 2 which was 120 PSI...
Well... after more testing, he found that all 6 of my fuel injectors are only barely working - they'll barely spray anything at crank / idle - and then completely stop functioning after the car warms up. My mechanic says that they're recieving so much fuel pressure from my racetronix pump that they can't open up fully. He believes my fuel pump is too strong for my engine.
Does this sound accurate? I never really thought there could be too "much" fuel pressure.
