Crane 10308-1 Valve spring kit w/ stock cam?

The previous owner of my '97 had installed 1.6 RRs, but kept the stock springs. Because of this (im 99% sure) it floats valves over 5k RPMs.

Im going to install a set of crane 10308-1 springs, using comp camps 4770-16 seats (.060 thick). This may put my installed height a touch on the tight side.

Will I have any issues with these spring pressures on the stock LT1 cam? I'll eventually (probably sooner than later) do a cam swap, but for now - I need new springs.

Cranes site says these springs give me Seat Pressure @ Installed Height 130 lbs @ 1.850, however I am guessing with these .060 seats (.045 thicker than the included sims in the crane cams kit), i'll be approximately 1.755 installed height.

Of course, i'll measure this all up, but how much can the stock cam take safely?

That is a good question. Open pressures on stock LT1 are around 280 so that is your upper floor on the stock cam. I have never been able to find any specification info on the metallurgy of the LT1 camshaft so not sure what amount of side loading it can take, nor specs on the stock lifters for that matter. I am assuming it is forged and there are a lot of guys running these successfully so it works but I am like you, like to verify with the math before I fire it up the first time.

Another area of possible concern is the pivot ball on stock rockers; the extra pressure and rpm is more heat and these can burn up the pivots; to the extent you probably have full roller rockers it is likely not an issue but I would check the rocker arm web page for the max rating just to make sure.

Hmm

I used those springs, they come with seats for the springs.... I have a cc503 I can't see why you would need anything other than the ones crane supplies with the kit.

Im using those seats because the crane "seats" are only shims. I'd rather use locator seats so my springs dont walk around~

Those springs were on my car when I bought it and I was running the stock cam. It still looked fine when I pulled it out.
