HELP!!!!!!! Car won't start

my car won't start. It could be the opti spark but the thing is it will start fine maybe four or Five times then after I shut it down and I try to start it about a half hour after it will start then shut down and it won't start again. It will turn over but once I let it sit for about 45 minutes it will start again. I changed the coil and I was wondering if it's the lil part above the coil pack? What's that do and what's the name of it? What could be a different problem than the opti spark? The coil is brand new. I'm thinking it's the part above the coil pack.

the little black thing above the coil is the icm (ignition control module, i believe is the acronym). it is a possible candidate altho i have understood that normally when those go bad they dont work at all, butthat is debatable. there is a method on shoebox's site for spacing the coil and icm away from the head to reduce heat soak on those parts. your local autoparts store (advance, autozone, o'reillys etc) can typically test an icm to see if its faulty.

wait so when I take it to auto zone does the ICM have to be on the car or should I take it off before I go?

If the optical cam position sensor in the Opti is experiencing intermittent failures, you will get codes for loss of high and/or low resolution pulse signals to the PCM. Its the optical sensor which seems to be sensitive to heat soak. Have you scanned it for codes?

Why not add a "Signature" with basic info about your car.... year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. That helps people answer your questions more accurately.

yea I have tried to scan it for codes which I have been getting the ses on my car and I took it to get scanned and they couldn't figure it out. Bc they had this pick which had to ends on it and they would put the to ends on the upper right of the computer plug and it wasn't flashing? aidk what they were trying to do but they couldn't figure out why it wasn't blinking. It was at auto zone to. Alright I'll do that later tonight I've got a 94 chevy amaro z 28 5.7L

Well, the '94 requires an OBDI scan tool or code puller. The codes can't be flashed. Got any buddies with an OBDI scan tool?

Use the "signature" feature. Makes not sense at all not to.
