Whats the concensus? The backspacing seems right, but the offset looks wrong, dont the two go hand in hand? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Eric L

Backspace and offset are mathematically related.
Assuming a 1/2" (0.50") flange width, a 9.5" wide wheel with a 6mm offset calculates out to a 5.5" backspace. The stated dimensions are correct.
What you really need to look at it the "frontspace". A 9.5" wide wheel is physically 10.5" wide (9.5" tire bead to tire bead + 2 flanges at 1/2" = 10.5"). If the wheel is 10.5" wide, and you have a 5.5" backspace, you will have a 5.0" frontspace. That means the outside edge of the wheel will be 2.7" further out than the stock 16x8 wheel, or about 1.5" outside the front fender.
This is a 17 x 9.5" wide wheel with a 7.5" backspace and a 3.0" frontspace - think what it would look like if it stuck out 2" more:
