Question I need some help...

I need some help guys.. I have a 94 z28. I got the car for dirt cheap and was told that the only thing wrong with her was that the engine harness had issues. I got the car home and got it all put back together.. Now my problem is that I have spark, Fuel, And of course air.. but I am not getting it to fire up. I checked everything.. Good spark to the plugs, just replaced the plugs, wires, ignition control module, and coil.. does anyone have any idea what to check next. I don't have any of the intake stuff on. I didn't think these cars needed the maf to be able to start.. but at this point I am willing to try anything..

Have you pulled the codes?

You indicate that you "got it all back together". Does that mean it was in pieces when you got it, or that you disassembled the engine and refreshed parts? Did you R&R the Opti? Have you cheked the fuel pressure?

When I got the car the valve covers, and crank pulley were off of the vehicle. I checked the opti, the complete wiring harness, the coil wiring, re made the jumper for the opti to the connector plug, changed all the plugs, all the plug wires, and made sure all the electrical connections were cleaned and making good contact.. this was all done today and it got dark before I had a chance to try and start the vehicle. I will try it first thing in the morning. if that didn't fix it I am going to go threw the fuel system.

Even the maf and all that? I thought these cars didnt need to see the signal from some sensors to start

So, you're really not willing to try anything? I've seen them not want to start unless all (even the MAF) was connected. But, if you don't think it will help, don't do it.

^^^^

Exactly what he says. My '96 will not fire up with the MAF unplugged. I unplugged it one day to test some stuff and it would not start until I plugged it back up.

Wow.. Calm down.. it was a simple question. I didn't mean to **** anyone off. I have been reading your website and find that you are extremely smart with these cars.. My bad man. If I would have known a simple question would set the world on fire I would have rephrased it for ya..

Thank you ACE. I didn't know that some had to see a signal from the MAF. I will most definitely get the car COMPLETELY back together and see what happens.

The car is supposed to be capable of running without a MAF. If the MAF fails, it's supposed to default to Speed Density mode...however I'm not sure at what point it will do that. I only tried cranking it for a min or two with it unplugged(if I had went longer...maybe it would have fired...not sure). I just wanted to let you know my experience for that situation.

All parties need to "calm down", including you, or this thread will be closed. He asked a simple question - are you not willing to try anything? I thought it was a good question. Why cripple the engine with parts missing, and then try and figure out why it won't start? Put it together, make sure evertything is hooked up correctly, then see how it starts.

I'm calm. Though, I find it amusing that when people want advice, they sometimes like to dispute it instead. Like Injuneer and I are saying, it is easier to have all the parts in place, so there is less to blame a problem on. The fewer the variables, the fewer the places to troubleshoot.

I would first like to apologize for my actions last night. I am sorry that i snapped back at you guys. I have never had a car be this much of a pain in the a** and this is the first car I haven't been able to figure out. I put the whole car back together today and still cant get it to fire. I even tried squirting some starting fluid down the tb and still nothing.. I am so lost.
