Sounds like a tough one.....

Hey everyone...My buddy has a z28 97' and he wrecked his car. The engine is out and is in great shape. But he wants a new body. He found a regular V6 camaro that was standard. The body looks great!! I think its a 2002 model. He was wondering if he could put his engine from the z28 into this car? Is there anyway of doing this? His 97 was a automatic, but he wants a standard now.

What needs to be done to make this work?

Thanks,
Jack

yes... it will require some fabrication but not much. make sure to swap out the springs, rear end, etc as well.

The K-members for the various engines are all different. Front springs will be different. The rear axle assembly would only need to be changed if it was a base V6 model, without the Posi. You will have to swap the complete PCM and harness from the 97 into the 2002. There are going to be a lot of mismatches with the body wiring harness, dash, etc. The 97 PCM can be flashed to an M6 tune. The tranny for the conversion will have to come out of a 93-97 model.

I would also like to add that depending on what type of collision he needs to recheck the crank. I had a wreck and the motor appeared fine externally. Internally the crank was snapped in two!

Sounds like a great project... but a ton of work and potential headache.

I'd recommend he simply get another Z with a manual tranny and consider his old engine a spare, or swap engines.

I told him it seemed like a headache to get a V6 body and try to convert it. The reason why he is considering a V6 model is because they are so cheap to buy. Like 2500 for one. Is there any websites where they sell z28 or ss bodies with no engine??

One more question, say he finds a 2001 body, since the engine came out of his 97, will it be alot of work to put it in the 2001?

Websites please on z28 or ss bodies with no engines!!!

Thanks
Jack

U can searh on the fs sections and find a roller. I had the same thing happen to me last year. my car was parked and someone backed in to my car and pushed it under a suburban. I looked for a roller with a manual tranny and ended up buying another car that was already standard and put my motor in it.

Yeah I would find a 93-97 LT1 equipped vehicle to do the swap. You can find them cheap enough if you look. As for doing the 98+ Body dtyle with an LT1 in it why?????????
