Sounds to me like an exhaust leak. That would explain the poor mileage too.

If you are going to do that you might as well pull the gaskets an look for signs of a leak. What gasket did you use?

Get a better quality gasket. Are they Kooks headers?

Check the dipstick as well. I've had mine touch the header and make that noise as well.

I can tell you that I had an exhaust leak and it sounded identical to that. I could of sworn it was something else because sometimes it really does sound like it's rods or rocker or something more serious, but it's just a leak. I would definately try that before you dig too deep.

Sounds like one of your rocker arms came loose to me. My car sounded just like that when I bent a pushrod. I would pull the valve covers off and have a look. you could use a stethoscope too pinpoint the noise, if you don't have one just use a long screwdriver and hold the handle to your ear.

i pulled one valve cover last night and everything seems good in there. im taking headers off and reseating them to see if that is my problem.

Definately a loose rocker or something up with a rod. Avoid running it too much until it's fixed.
