Wierd engine noise on startup help.

Ok last week I took a trip up to Gainesville to see my friend who goes to UF. the car sat for about 3 days, when i went to go leave I started the car it started right up, but i heard a sound coming from the passenger side of the engine, it sounded like if you were to knock on a hollow piece of wood its not a ticking sound though. I was like WTF!, but then it stopped after about 5 seconds everything seemed fine got on the highway drove back home no issues since then.

Then today I went to use my car it sat for 3 days I go to start it makes the same sound then stops after 5 seconds. So my question is what could be causing it, and could it be the signs of something serious. Thanks

I would have someone start the car and get as close to the noise as possible and see where its coming from. A video with sound would help also.

yeah the problem seems to be the car has to sit for a couple days it seems otherwise it doesn't do it, and it stops so fast I couldn't get out to see where exactly it was coming from.

If it only happens when it sits for a long period of time and no other it might be something like the pulley or belt.

No the car doesn't have cats. The car has yet to make the noise again, so I'm almost positive it has something to do with the car sitting and not being used for more than two days. It almost never does sit so I'm guessing I won't be able to diagnose it unless I'm not going to use the car for a couple days..
