Exclamation I think I got "rod knock" today?! ---

My car has been running sorta weird these past 3 months. I thought it was a big exhaust leak, because at idle it sounded LOUDER.

Today on the way home , I hear a knock knock knock on the highway during stop and go traffic. Well , it didnt go away .

Oil pressure is good at 55, it doesnt overheat, but sounds like something is tapping on the oil pan (this is my assumption while IN the car .... I havent listened under the hood yet, its snowing a lil bit) . I just f'n changed the oil with Mobile 1 extended a week ago.

The sound gets faster with the rpm's, and louder.

Time to install the le2 FINALLY ?! (maybe this is what I needed, a push in the rear end , lol ) Just hit 142k btw

It sorta sounds like this , but not as frequent/ badly http://videos.camaroz28.com/search/r...a3c40d03e8.htm I would say 1/3 of the knock frequency and 1/2 as loud ---

It could be a number of things
is the car actually a 6speed or is that purchased but awaiting install as well?
if its actually an auto my first guess would be a cracked flexplate or loose tc bolts
if it is actually a six speed pull the valve covers make sure you dont have a broken rocker stud or loose rocker arm

Sorry , its an original 6 spd ..... f'it .... if its something "small" like a rocker stud or arm , I would rather just install my other parts, lol

The REAL reason it pisses me off is because I was ONLY a day or two from going FULL FORCE on my '67 .... oh well , life goes on

I just wanted a 12 second car for the summer ... and I got it (just not the one I wanted ) ---

Check your right side motor mount. When mine got hot, the rubber moved & allowed the metal center section to rap on the mount. Sounded like a rod knock or a very bad lifter.

HAHAH about 1/4 inch of my gator belt was sliced about 1/2 length down my belt and slapping the hood!!!

Now I need to figure out why .... but chances are its because of my mis-installed asp u/d pulley (that I have been using without a balancer )

Looks like it slipped a tooth INWARDS to the engine.

THANKS GUYS!!! ---

Drive it long enough like that, and it'll start knocking, but it won't be from a split serpentine belt.
