Replacing water pump. Should I do opti since im in there

Well the water pump looked like it was leaking, so me and my buddy decided to replace it. We got it all torn down, and once we got it out, it was evident that the water pump was far gone. The bearings in the back were all shot, and it looked like there was some evidence of leakage onto the opti.

The car has been running fine, it doesnt really seem like the opti is going bad or anything. My question is, since everything is torn down, would it be wise to just replace the opti anyway?

Thanks

PS Or maybe just do cap and rotor?????

im with pontiac 97 just make sure you dont spill any fluid on the opti.besides have you priced one yet?ouch!but if you need plugs and wires do them now.and i would go with a ewp not a big price dif. from stock.
good luck

How many miles are on the car? If you have alot I would just get it over with now so you dont have to worry about it down the road. It would suck to finish this job only to find out your opti is crapping out a few months down the road.

having done both, i wouldn't do the opti unless you need to. i recently did the wp on my car and was done is a couple hours taking my time. getting the opti out, a new one on, and putting EVERYTHING back together is a lot more time consuming and potentially more expensive

I agree with Pontiac_97.
If it's not missing or running rough, and you're not getting opti-related codes when you scan it, I would leave the opti alone.

Maybe take a look at the cap and rotor.
If the cap and rotor looks like it needs to be replaced, then replace that.
I wouldn't jump the gun on replacing the optical sensor (back half) of the opti.

Take a look at the timing cover seals and make sure there's no leaks there.

I'de pull the cap off and take a look at it, then decide what to do from there.

I plan on doing the same, in opposite. I will be changing my Opti soon and will do the water pump at the same time. My time is pretty important to me.

Assuming that it looks OK, I plan to keep the existing water pump as a spare.

That is the smartest route to take. I think way too many people replace the opti when all you need is a cap and rotor.
